Robert
E. Powell resides in Memphis, Tennessee with his wife
Marian and his two children, Robert, Jr. and Marissa. Being
one of twelve siblings, Robert's goal in life is simple....to
just enjoy it. He writes and illustrates the gospel comic strip,
Bishop Bigelow.
"Bishop Bigelow to me is just an ordinary preacher with
a whole lot of extraordinary circumstances that surround him.
I'm not a preacher, but I'm sort of like Bishop Bigelow in a
sense. Like Bishop Bigelow, I think that I'm a very down-to-earth
individual, but I'm always surrounded by a lot of comedic situations.
I think that's what keeps me going...the laughter. One of my
purposes in life is to touch people lives through smiles and
laughter through Bishop Bigelow and not take everything serious
all of the time. Stress many times is caused by no laughter
and no fulfillment of life. This also leads to depression which
in turn can kill you."
Bishop
Bigelow can found on various Christian websites. In addition to
the online cartoon strip, Bishop Bigelow, Robert also is founder
of the Powell Gospel Network which features articles, news and
online inspiration from his wife, Marian. "It's all about
the love of Jesus," says Marian. "We just try to give
back what God has given us...LOVE. You can't always reach people
the way you want to, but Bishop Bigelow along with the Powell
Gospel Network are the perfect avenues for witnessing to an unsaved
and saved audience."
Look
for the animated version of Bishop Bigelow real soon. "I
plan for Bishop Bigelow to go national on television networks
because this vision of mine is something I feel is needed in the
gospel community," says Robert. "If they can put the
Simpsons, King of the Hill and South Park on primetime and cable
television, where profanity and vulgarity are highly pronounced,
then I feel that they should have a Bishop Bigelow because Christians
need a comical, clean animated series to enjoy as well."
