PARENTAL
GUIDANCE
By Marian Powell
Being a parent is not an easy job. It doesn't come with instructions so our kids are taught and raised by trial and error (especially the first child). Don't get me wrong....we have the good book, the Bible, which let us know what to do and leads us and guides us spiritually. But at times, it's so easy to feel lost, frustrated and dumb. Sometimes we just don't know what to do. Our children have different personalities and sometimes our attitudes clash. Parents must be prayerful, patient, kind and loving towards their children at all times. It is our job to understand our children and how they feel. Our children are not going to come to us and tell us how they feel all of the time. We must make it our business to get involved and ask how our children feel about themselves and about the things that are going on in their lives and their surroundings. Believe it or not, our children want their parents to be a part of their lives and they want to know that their parents genuinely and truly care about their feelings. It's our job to make sure that we talk to our children and let them know that the can come to us for anything. Let's understand that they're not always going to do that unless we keep the lines of communication open. We must strive to be the best parents we can be. All of us need to come together, mothers and fathers, to talk and help one another. Parenting takes lots of work and we must do whatever it takes to do our best. Thank God for children because they are a true blessing.
