REALITY CHECK By Marian Powell
When was the last time you had a reality check? Are you too busy pointing the finger and blaming someone else? It's time to wake up because the time is near is God is soon to come. Do you know for sure what He's going to say to you? Is He going to say "Servant well done" or "Get from here for I knew you not"? It's time to take a long good look in the mirror. Looking in the mirror will let you see who you really are and I'm not talking about your outside appearance. I'm talking about the inside. You may look good on the outside, but what does your inside look like? Is it crowded with mess? Is it dark with bitterness? Is it filled with anger? Is it stuffed with hidden inquity? Take a look inside and see what you find. You'll be amazed if you searched your heart and saw what was in there. Ask God to help you search if you're being truthful and honest about looking into your heart. God will reveal everything you need to know if you truly want to know.
It's easy to blame and judge others for your actions, but the reality is...you are responsible for your own actions - NO MATTER WHAT! I know that it's easy to say that she did this to me or that she hurt my feelings or that she is always looking at me funny, but it's all about how you react in the situations or circumstances that you encounter. God is looking at us and not the other person even if they were in the wrong. The other person will be held in account for their own actions, but that's God's job....not yours! In order to take a reality check, you must pray, fast and read the word of God daily because through the word of God you will see yourself. Reading the word is very important because everything that you need is in the word. Every question you have about yourself in the word. Prayer and fasting helps the process because prayer opens the lines of communication with the Lord and builds the relationship. Fasting clears the mind and frees it from junk so that you can truly hear from God and know His voice. Most important, it disciplines your spiritual mind and draws you closer to Him. Seek the Lord while He is near and let Him mold and make you into the person He created you to be. God wants you to love one another and build each other up and not tear each other down. God is the only one who will judge. Get rid of the judgmental mind and check yourself. Pray for yourself and one another. Make sure you're doing what's right and pleasing in the sight of the Lord. Make sure your heart is free of malice, bitterness, anger and hidden iniquity. Most important, make sure you react according to the word of God. Ask the Lord to help you. If you don't ever get things right in your heart, you will find yourself going through the same things over and over again. Do you ever wonder why you keep going through the same things. Well, you're going through them because you didn't go through them the right way the first time, the second time or the third time. In order to get into Heaven, your heart must be right. So the next time you find yourself blaming and judging someone else, take a reality check and look at yourself for who you really are, but WATCH OUT! The truth may hurt.
